Hours of Operation

The Animal Control Department is staffed and available for calls on regular work days, Monday - Thursday from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. Citizens may access Department personnel by calling the Dayton Police Department Dispatch Center at 936-258-7621 or by personal appearance at the station house which is located at:

Adoption of Pets

Adopt logoIt is the Animal Control Officer's goal to find a home or rescue for every stray or abandoned animal that comes through the system. To facilitate this desire, photographs of adoptable animals are periodically posted on our Facebook page. Additionally, citizens desiring to adopt a pet may contact the department. We ask that these "adoption wish list" be in writing and that they contain appropriate contact names and phone numbers. The Department retains these requests and will respond to same if an animal matching the request should come through the system.

You must be 18 years of age and hold a valid Texas driver's license before you are eligible to adopt a pet. There are no fees associated with the adoption process. However, persons utilizing the pet adoption process are highly encouraged to immediately have their animal spayed or neutered.

Mission Statement

The City of Dayton's Animal Control Department is a division of the Police Department. It is the principal directive of the Department to enforce Federal, State and local laws as they apply to the ownership and proper maintenance of animals. The Department is committed to providing the City of Dayton's citizens with a safe and sanitary environment in which to live and play. It is the Department's ultimate goal to teach responsible pet ownership and to ensure the humane treatment of animals through public education and comprehensive animal control regulations.
